We have been portraying MPs in Vietnam for nearly five years. We found that the 552nd MP Company served as part of Field Force II alongside the Air Cav, based at Long Binh. The 552nd Mp Company, or the ‘Duece’ as they preferred to be called were quite unique among MP units as they were directly attached to FFII and did not come under the 18th MP Brigade, as most MP units did.
We wish to show what the MPs role was in Vietnam, from directing traffic, to collecting POWs and policing the troops as well. We also demonstrate that despite all this, the MPs were combat troops at heart and were sometimes called to duty on the front line. We have built ourselves a gatehouse similar to those used by MP units at road checkpoints or entrances to firebases. We are also hoping to have access to an M151 MUTT at our disposal for MP mobile patrols in the near future.
So far the 552nd MP have displayed with the UKAirCav at such shows as the War and Peace show 2006, 2007, 2008, Kemble MVT Show 2007, Damyns Hall MVT Essex show 2007 and the Military Mayhem show in 2008.
